Setting
up time
In order to get the best possible drum sound we use eight separate microphones
on the drums this takes some time to position and balance the sound. We
will also need time for you to bring your equipment in and tune up. Once
the band is ready to go we will need you to play a few warm up songs so
that we can set up recording levels and understand your sound. This usually
takes an hour then we are ready to record. When we have recorded the backing
tracks and guide vocals we have to reconfigure the studio this only takes
a few minutes but once it is done it is difficult to go back to recording
the band so we do the lead vocals and over dubs at the end of the session.
Basic mixing
The basic mixing package is designed to give you a chance to hear what
you sound like for the first time for the lowest possible cost. It is
not intended to play these tracks to anyone outside of your band because
they will not present your sound or our recording studio at its best.
To present your band to others you will need the Pulse or Adrenalise packages.
The tracks are presented as they were recorded with no editing so count
in's comments and off microphone noises are left on the track. The guide
vocal will have spill from the drums and other instruments this means
the sound will be very live and less clear than a produced mix. The tracks
will sound as they were recorded with no EQ, FX and no producers "magic
dust" applied to the tracks. The volume levels will be balanced and some
basic stereo positioning applied.
Standard Production mixing
Our mixing engineer will sprinkle some "magic dust" on your tracks to
present your music at its best and help sell your sound to promoters and
would be booking agents. The tracks will have all count in's and off microphone
noised edited out. The drum microphones will be gated to remove spill
and the instruments compressed to give an even volume through out the
songs. Appropriate standard EQs will be applied to each instrument so
they sit together in the track and some standard effects like reverb added
to give that professional sheen.
Creative
production mixing
Our mixing engineer will work in partnership with you to sell your music
at its best. In addition to the standard features described above our
engineer will apply effects to the instruments in a creative way to make
guitars sound bigger, give drums more life and vocals sound more up front.
With this package you get the final say on how your sound is presented
using our simple feedback forms. We deliver a basic mix you listen and
provide feedback of the changes you want making. We then remix to your
specifications provided this work falls within the three hours allocated.
Or you can invest in more of our engineer's time and re-record some parts
and/or over dub more instruments and produce the sound further.
Mastering
Once your CD is mixed the tracks are balanced so that they are all the
same volume and sound like a single project. CD text is added and some
stereo magic dust is applied to make them sound like a production CD that
you would buy in any shop. The loudness level is increased and the frequencies
balanced out to make you music sound really professional. The CD is then
burned onto high quality media it is this disc that you should make any
copies from. Never copy from a copy despite what you might think CDs do
loose some definition when copied.
